Spent four nights here in November 2011. We stayed in a Deluxe Retreat - which is a bungalow on stilts. It had a fabulous view of Weary Bay and lots of room inside and out. We were extremely comfy and loved everything about it. As some other reviewers have mentioned, there is no air conditioning but it really isn't a problem. We found the ceiling fan to be quite sufficient with all the Louvre windows open - it's quiet and private everywhere and lovely to sleep with everything open to the night.
The transfers to and from the lodge by light aircraft, four-wheel drive and boat are a fantastic little adventure and all part of the fun and there is a small reception committee waiting for you when you arrive and they are all extremely obliging and nothing is too much trouble. The lodge area is rustic and peaceful - no music or entertainment of any kind, just the pool and the bar, what more do you need?
We went on the excursion to the barrier reef for snorkelling and fishing and it was fab and we caught fish which the chef served up as bar snacks that evening - brilliant! The two gents who run the trips are incredibly knowledgeable about everything and they made all the excursions really enjoyable. The boat trip out and back to the reef is quite exhilarating, so do it if you can. We enjoyed fishing off the jetty too and caught many fish including small sharks which we threw back. Everything is provided including bait - just wonder along and please yourself. The weather was hot, sunny and humid for our whole stay except for a downpour one night.
The food was delicious with a set menu every day. However, if you don't like something just ask for something else - nothing is too much trouble. The bbq was particularly impressive with the best prawns we have ever eaten. Seating is communal but there are also private tables if you prefer. We chose to eat privately at lunch times which gave us the best of both worlds. Dress is casual - no need for the tiara - shorts and tees are sufficient if you choose.
We can thoroughly recommend Bloomfield.
Blooming Great
Bloomfield Lodge is the place to get away from it all and relax. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. The service was great and the food was certainly five star. The tours on offer are really good and give you a good insight into North Queensland life and plenty of wild life to see including the crocs. The fishing is good to. I can't speak highly enough of this wonderful holiday adventure. It was that good we are returning in 2012.
We stayed for 4 days in the Robinson Crusoe room, which was a perfect end to our 3 weeks in Australia, for our honeymoon. We couldn't have asked for any more from the amazing views, the tranquility and the service. Ben, Courtenay and the team were excellent, with nothing ever too much trouble. I have never met a team of people that show such passion in everything they do.
You may think that the headline costs look expensive, when searching for your holiday. However, if you consider the amazing trips (flights, crocodile boat trip, rainforest walk), the inclusive food (which is excellent, and just keeps on coming!) and the facilities (swimming pool, jacuzzis, gym etc.), this is a bargain!
Back to the Robinson Crusoe room, what an amazing experience. To be able to sit in the jacuzzi, just looking into the distance for perfect views, or waking up and being with nature all around will take some beating for any other holiday experience.
If you don't like nature being close by, prefer hotel rooms with Air Con units, and can't cope without the hustle and bustle of Mobile Phones, Satellite TV and the Internet 24 hours a day, don't go to Bloomfield Lodge.
However, if you want a holiday with total relaxation, first class care and stories of nature and scenery to bore your friends with for many years into the future, then you must experience Bloomfield Lodge!
What an outstanding place to wind down and relax. No internet, no mobile phones so immediately you have to stop and take in the spectacular views, the beautiful environment that is Cape Tribulation. Amazing food, great hosts and best of all the activities are outstanding. The local guides, great Aussie blokes who know the area so well and are a wealth of knowledge. One of the best Aussie adventures we have done.
Absolutely worth visiting! Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a exciting holiday in a beautiful part of Australia. Wished we had stayed longer.
Bloomfield Lodge, awe-inspiring rainforest retreat hewn from hardwood and the place is magnificent! Will be back :)
Rainforest retreat Bloomfield Lodge has some wicked features like this suspension bridge!
Thank you for making our holiday at Bloomfield Lodge so enjoyable. The team you have is a credit to you, everyone obviously loves working there because it shows in their faces and in their interaction with the guests, who quickly become friends. The food was amazing and your chefs and waiting staff are to be congratulated on the superb service. All the guides we met, Paul, Craig and Shayne shared their knowledge and passion for their environment.
You had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable and anticipated our every need. We found nothing to disappoint and much to enjoy. Bloomfield Lodge is being recommended to everyone we know and meet.
I’m sure all your guests shed a tear when they leave and we were no exception. We hope to return one day. Thank you again for a fabulous holiday.
Thank you for such a memorable week at Bloomfield Lodge, we loved every aspect of our time there. The three guides that we had really made our trip: Craig who took us down river and showed us no less than 9 crocs, Paul who took us through the forest by the lodge and also to Bloomfield Falls and out to the reef and Hope Island, Shayne who took us on a wonderful day trip through the rainforest to Cooktown. They were truly lovely people, and looked after us so well.
We will remember Bloomfield with great affection, it is so unspoilt and no one can improve on it in anyway.
We stayed in a deluxe room with a breathtaking view over the bay and the forest. It was one of the most spectacular hotel rooms I've ever stayed in (Maldives water villa vying for a joint first place for me on the view). Food throughout our stay was top class and there was always rather a lot of it! Drinks are from a very well-stocked bar (in that most cocktails can be made by guests) and paid for per drink on an honour system. The wines were good quality by my measure.
Bloomfield is an amazing place and I think it's well worth the splurge.
We picked this place as our one nod to luxury on a long trip. It really lived up to our expectations. The room was lovely and so private, and the staff were wonderful. The food was great, and there was so much of it. (I asked for smaller portions and they were only too happy to oblige.)
We also took part in the reef trip which was brilliant. It was my first time snorkelling and I loved it, and the little island they brought us to was the most beautiful I have ever seen.
The swimming pool is lovely and the limited number guests means that you get to know everyone if you want to.
Bloomfield Lodge was the last destination on our honeymoon to Australia and it was definitely save the best till last!! It was an amazing place and made our honeymoon an unforgettable experience!! After 6 months we are still buzzing about this place and hope to return for future anniversaries!!
From the moment we were escorted from our hotel in Cairns to the private plane over the reef, then a 4WD and then a little boat it was truly bliss. The staff were all so helpful and they think of everything you might possibly need including suncream and bug spray!
I was a little worried about bugs and dining altogether but somehow you just go for it and everyone we met was great and the bugs stayed well clear. Would definitely recommend the barrier reef trip it was our favourite part of the trip - there were just four of us and we had an amazing time - I had never snorkelled before and the guys really put you at ease and went all out to make the experience unforgettable. We also loved fishing off the jetty and catching lots of fish for the chef to turn into evening canapes - a new found hobby! The honesty bar in the evenings was a fantastic idea too.
Stunning little gem and we very much hope to return very soon! Big thank you to all the truly wonderful staff at Bloomfield!! Room Tip: We had a deluxe room and it was fabulous, next time we might try one with a hot tub!
This is a delightful surprise in a very remote place. It can only be reached by boat and is warm, comfortable and welcoming.
The rooms have the feel of an old Queenslander: lots of timber, lattice-work, verandah, mozzie-nets.
There is a small gym which is well-equipped and a beautiful, very private spa with full services.
The staff are very friendly, hospitable and competent. Within a few hours you feel as though you know everyone and as if you've been there for days.
Just returned from four nights at Bloomfield where our daughter, Karen, got married.
Its every bit as good as the reviews say.
We stayed in a Queenslander room with fabulous views of the bay.
The staff could not be faulted. Thanks to Ben and Courtney, nothing is too much trouble.
The food could not be faulted.
The rainforest walked guided by Paul was very interesting and informative.
All in all its probably the best place we have ever stayed.
Just returned from four nights and they were the best four nights we've ever spent on holiday. It was fantastic. Can't praise the staff enough, they got the balance just right of giving you enough information and help without being intrusive, big thanks to Ben & Courtney. Met some really nice people at the communal dining. Great food and wine, will need to go on a diet now though!! Two trips included in the price - river cruise and jungle walk. The guides were great and knew everything about the area.
Only hope we can visit again sometime.
We visited Bloomfield on honeymoon in June 2010 and had an amazing stay! The initial flight out to the lodge is absolutely stunning looking down over the reef as you fly from Cairns. There is complete silence as soon as you arrive are at the hotel!
On one day the boat took us round to a neighbouring beach and dropped us with a box full of food and came back for us a few hours later - we were literally the only people along the whole stretch of sand. I had a massage one afternoon which was very relaxing, listening to the sound of the animals in the rainforest.
The food you will be served is out of this world. Every morning a menu is left on your bed advising what the meals of that day are - lets just say you are never left hungry! You share your table with a few of the other guests and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting to people of various nationalities and travelling experiences - the faces are always changing as there stays overlap with yours. We did opt for private dining one evening as this was our honeymoon after all! The bar is an honesty bar so you serve yourself and mark down what you consume. Perfect for cocktail making to take with you to the hot tub and watch the sunset on the most idyllic setting!
If we didn’t live so far away we would be sure to visit again.
Theodore Roosevelt once told a nation to seize the moment, a sentiment shared by Bloomfield’s very own Crocodile Dundee. Shayne is as much apart of the surrounding rain forest as the giant toad he holds in his hands. Flipping the toad onto its back, he slowly rubs it’s tummy until the toad freezes as he tells me that the local aboriginal community believe that you live for the ‘One Time.’
As a regular traveller my expectations are always growing and I can honestly say Bloomfield Lodge never once disappointed me. Nestled into the Australian rain forest it’s the perfect retreat and a fabulous chance to switch off from the world and when you’re bored of that why not catch a shark or two! Stroll round a deserted island, snorkel off of the Great Barrier Reef or go crock hunting.
When you book a stay at Bloomfield Lodge, you’re paying for an experience you’ll never want to leave behind.
We visited the Lodge on the start of my retirement holiday and what a way to start. It was the attention to detail which most hotels/resorts could learn from.
The accommodation was excellent and the food was out of this world. Outstanding - and the staff should all receive an award for the best staff in the world. I wish we had stayed longer.
We spent 5 days at the Bloomfield Lodge and had a fabulous time. The staff are great and we actually miss them already. Paul and Shayne must be the best guides we ever met, they are full of knowledge about the reef and the rainforest and have fantastic stories for you. The food is delicious and having dinner every night while seated at the same table as the other guests must be one of the best ingredients for a really nice evening.
We stayed in a Queenslander room and the rooms are big and all have beautiful views. There are loads of activities - if you feel like it, if not just relax - and we went fishing and snorkeling on the reef with Shayne and we really enjoyed that.
The only thing we were really sad about is that we had to leave after 5 days. A true hidden gem. Voted as the most remote resort in the world by Forbes and rightfully so. An unforgettable experience. We loved it.
An enjoyable flight and interesting boat trip takes you far into Queensland's hidden gem, Bloomfield. The rooms were beautifully furnished and very private. The food was amazing; fine dining in a rainforest is something to be experienced! The staff provided excellent service throughout our stay. We cruised the Bloomfield River spotting crocodiles, went on nature walks and took time to truly relax. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
When you stay at Bloomfield you are buying into the whole rainforest experience, not just a stay at a hotel. In terms of service the Bloomfield experience is very much 5 star; obviously the facilities and guest services of such a small place are not up to the standard of a 5 star hotel but the service is excellent and you are made to feel like you are receiving some top end treatment from the start.
In terms of value, I think Bloomfield is rather good. It may seem expensive for something that doesn't have air conditioning or on demand movies, but when you factor in the cost of the travel to this rather remote location, all of the rather good food, the complimentary trips and the incredible location; I think it's worth every penny. The honesty bar, it must be said, is very reasonably priced.
Don't compare Bloomfield to 5 star hotels; because it doesn't try to be one. Think of Bloomfield like a rainforest safari retreat; a unique and unforgettable opportunity to stay in an intimate retreat in a remote rainforest.
